Architecture as a key to urban mobility - Marko Dabrović on City and Traffic panel

Urania

27. May 2025

On Tuesday, May 27, 2025, a public panel titled "City and Traffic" was held at Urania – Space of Creation, focusing on the challenges of urban mobility and the potential development of Zagreb’s transportation infrastructure. The event brought together experts in transport, architecture, and technology to discuss the city's mobility issues and explore ways to transform its traffic systems.

Among the panelists was Marko Dabrović, partner at 3LHD, who spoke about the role of architecture in shaping sustainable and high-quality public spaces. He was joined in the discussion by Prof. Dr. Marko Ševrović, Head of the Department of Transport Planning at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, and Zvonimir Zelenika, engineer and founder of the company Really Cool Things. The panel was moderated by Dr. Una Vidović, Director of Mobilita Evolva and an expert in transport modeling and sustainable infrastructure.

Dabrović highlighted the fact that Zagreb has expanded significantly over the years, but in an unplanned manner, resulting in an extremely low population density. He compared Zagreb with Paris, which has 20,000 residents per square kilometer, while Zagreb has only 1,200—leading to a heavy reliance on cars. He emphasized the need for the development of pedestrian zones and the creation of a more pleasant urban environment.

The "City and Traffic" panel opened up important questions about the future of Zagreb and the necessity for an integrated approach to planning both urban space and transport infrastructure.
