Port Lands Sports Centre project on board Toronto 2010

Port Lands Sports Centre, a new sports complex in downtown Toronto on the shores of Lake Ontario, consists of 4 hockey fields.  It is located at the site of the old harbor area, which is to be transformed into a new neighborhood by the new Lower Don Lands plan. A vertical structure in which halls are located one above the other has been proposed to leave space for further urban development. The project was approved by the municipal authorities and design and construction are expected to continue next year.

Senj Squares project Senj 2010

The concept of the project starts from the fact that Senj has a completely defined and built structure and does not need a big change but a new contemporary layer that will regulate further development of all of the elements and link them together. By defining the two main squares - Cilnica and Pavlinski through their historical roles and green oases and linking the whole area by a stone paving of equal modules and a "white line", the area is unified into a harmonious and distinctive urban space.

Green Pavilion_Restaurant project Zagreb 2010

The most important element and the inspiration for this project is the location itself, with extremely high quality existing vegetation, which is densely distributed throughout the plot and gradually diluted out toward the eastern edge. The idea of the new Pavilion / Restaurant is to construct a space by mapping the area of high quality trees and to define the remaining territory for construction. By raising this "cut" green territory in the air the space "below" is created. The basic formal and functional element and a seasonal regulator of light is so-called "vegetative"canopy that has been formed along the entire roof edge.
Open atrium spaces which let the light enter all parts of the building and provide visual and physical connections with the natural environment are created to enhance transparency in the area around the trees. The large entrance atrium is the main entrance Plaza, a meeting place, an open terrace and a main entrance to all building spaces. Two main restaurants (canteen and a'la carte) are located next to two main building atriums. The canteen space is oriented to the Forest Park and the sliding doors enable its expansion to the outside environment. The Students association offices and the multifunctional Hall are part of the eastern volume, thus allowing the pavilion to be built in phases.
The small temporary buildings and greenhouses that have always been present throughout the campus as part of the faculty culture have served as inspiration for the accommodation units with ten apartments which have been incorporated into the project concept. The apartments are designed as freestanding volumes raised on the roof for privacy. Zones with different plants which may also serve educational purposes were formed around the apartments, on the roof surface.
The idea is to create a sustainable house, which will contribute to the environment in every respect - with building materials, construction and structure. In designing, a special significance is given to natural lighting and natural space ventilation, which further reduces the energy requirements for artificial lighting, heating and cooling. The roof and its oversized vegetative canopy are excellent regulators of heat, a thick protective cover that keeps the house from cold in winter and heat in summer.
The landscape design is an integral part of the basic architecture concept and the whole plot. The largest part of the roof surface is covered with succulents typical for roof gardens; other areas are organized into regular shapes inspired by plant growing plots. Communication paths and small leisure zones for guests and canteen users are created between the regular shapes.
In the restaurant kitchens approximately 1500 meals will be prepared and served daily. All working and service spaces are organized on one level - the ground floor, to enable the ideal functionality and access to all units. One of the specifics of the kitchen is full contact with the outer space.

Hotel Lone completed Rovinj 2006

Hotel Lone, the first design hotel in Croatia, is situated in the Monte Mulini forest park, Rovinj's most attractive tourist zone, located in the immediate vicinity of the legendary Eden Hotel and the new Monte Mulini hotel. The surrounding grounds and parkland is a unique and protected region of the Monte Mulini forest on the Lone Bay. 
The term design hotel is meant to illustrate this as a space that nurtures the concept of an interesting and functional design. Created by a team of renowned Croatian creatives comprised of a new generation of architects, conceptual artists, product, fashion and graphic designers. The Architects from studio 3LHD were responsible for the design and construction of the hotel building. In addition to the overall architecture, the interiors and the furniture were designed and chosen especially for the hotel in order to achieve a distinct and recognizable identity. The designers from Numen / For Use designed the furniture. The fashion studio I-GLE designed the staff uniforms and other textiles. Artist Silvio Vujičić created graphics on fabrics for the rooms. Installations in the hotel lobby were made by a group of innovative artists: Ivana Franke - "Room for running ghosts"; Silvio Vujičić - "In the hanging garden no one speaks" and the fashion studio I-GLE - textile compositions No1, No2, No3. Studio92 designed the Wellness & Spa center, while Studio Kappo did Landscape design.  The agency Bruketa & Žinić OM conceived and oversaw the visual identity of the hotel.
The hotel's identity is recognized through the external design of the building, with a facade that is defined by dominant horizontal lines - terrace guards designed to evoke the image of slanted boat decks. The building's floorplates contract from level to level going up, creating an elevation that is tapered at all angles. The site's complex terrain with dramatic altitude changes determined the locations of internal facility spaces through a dynamic interweaving of public areas and guest suites at all levels. The specific Y shaped ground plan enabled a: rational & functional organizational scheme; quality views from all rooms; and the grouping of public facilities around a central vertical lobby. The main lobby connects common spaces on all levels, creating a central volume of impressive height and scale with interesting views in and around where all vital functions of the hotel take place.

The Floating Pavilion was built on an existing barge with dimensions of 10m x 20m x 3m in the form of a cargo of 32 tons of welded wire mesh, with more than 40 layers spaced so that they form a solid volume with approximate dimensions of 19m x 9m x 5,5m. A carved out space was shaped inside the volume by varying contours that form the main space as well as protrusions and openings toward the outside. Almost invisible form a distance, the structure revealed itself with different densities of steel mesh, transparencies, and vision lines, forming stunning visual effects and experience of space by very simple means. The Croatian pavilion was towed by a tugboat from the shipyard in Kraljevica to the port of Rijeka, presented to the public on August 21st 2010, and on to Venice where it was to be moored at the main pier during the opening of the Biennale.

Campus B project Zagreb 2010

By planning the new Borongaj Campus we are also creating a development plan for a new part of the city, and we need to resolve two important issues: how to create a new quality part of the city and what will be a major catalyst for its development. 3LHD has proposed the creation of the concept of clusters in a green forest, clearly defining the "empty" natural areas, borders, infrastructure and hierarchy. Each cluster has a matrix and its specificity - the public space, public buildings and a formed façade. In this way we gradually develop a plan for the Green Campus Borongaj.

Business Centre Sopot project Zagreb 2011
Mali Maj project Poreč 2011

The competition for an architectural and urban design of City of Poreč sub-centre (Špadići - Mali Maj - Veli Maj) was looking for a new residential area with sports and business facilities that will become a new gravitational area of the northern part of town. The site is situated north of the city, in a mixed use zone, bordered by residential and tourist quarters very close to the sea and the beach. The project is based on the concept of analysis of the morphology of the Istrian village and the topography of the site situated favorably toward the sea. The analysis allowed the formation of eight smaller clusters and a separate sports complex arranged in a mosaic of a "natural" structure, and a new urban matrix developed entirely in accordance with local features, that allows the construction in phases. The residential buildings planned in the project are at most three storey high with passages in the ground floors, typologically between family houses and apartment buildings. The main pedestrian routes and public facilities on the ground floors are placed between the clusters surrounding the interior thematic courtyards. Using pedestrian domination and exclusively pedestrian streets we want to create a place of social encounters so typical for the Mediterranean. Small urban squares are also formed on the crossroads of the pedestrian streets, and the loose structure opens views towards the sea and penetrates into the internal blocks developing Green Courtyards. These green oases are small theme "parks" and a contemporary interpretation of sinkholes and dry stone walls. They take on a variety of contents in the function of surrounding construction - from high greenery, playgrounds, gardens and the possibility of creating small local pools.

Zamet Centre completed Rijeka 2004

The basic characteristic of the design is the integration of a big project task into the urban structure of Zamet, with the objective of minimizing disruption and to evaluate its given urban conditions - unlevelling the terrain, the pedestrian link in a north-south direction, the quality plateau in front of the primary school, the park zone, placing the programme in the centre of Zamet at the intersection of communications. The joint conceptual and design element of the handball hall and the Zamet centre are "ribbons" stretching in a north-south direction, functioning at the same time as an architectural design element of the objects and as a zoning element which forms a public square and a link between the north - park-school and the south - the street. One third of the hall's volume is built into the terrain, and the building with its public and service facilities has been completely integrated into the terrain, i.e. it creates it with its "ribbons". The public space on the roof is not only a feature of the building in the business part of the centre, but the roof of the hall is also used as a kind of extension of the park situated to the north of the hall. The hall has been designed for major international sports competitions, in compliance with state-of-the-art world sports standards. The design of the hall has been conceived as a very flexible space. The auditorium has been designed as a system with telescopic stands, which open and adapt to the kind of competition and the number of spectators; at major competitions it is possible to seat 2380 spectators by opening all the stands. The architecture of public facilities, the shopping centre, the library and the local authority stands out in the topography of the terrain, connecting the square in front of the hall and in front of the school and tries to integrate into the overall existing context of western Zamet.

Zagreb Dance Center completed Zagreb 2003

The opening of big movieplex cinemas in Zagreb has led to the dying out of old cinema theatres in the city centre. The City of Zagreb, who is the owner of the old cinema Lika, decided to reuse the space for new cultural facilities. In that scenario old cinema Lika was given the role of a new dance centre.
Fifty years of contemporary dance culture in Zagreb has produced about 40 dance troops, with this project all of them will have a new home in the city centre. The cinema is located in a derelict residential block only 100 meters away from the Zagreb's main square. The entire project's program is determined by the gross developed area defined in the master plan and it places the project in the old cinema shell. The new dance centre houses numerous dancers, choreographers, art troops and companies with three multipurpose studios (one large studio with 150 telescopic seats and two smaller training studios), three spacious dressing rooms, bathrooms, storages for props and technology and office spaces.
The only new architectural element of the centre is the new entrance lobby, a polyvalent space in the service of communication and meeting with a cafe, library and a video store. It was interpolated on the basis of almost default parameters of the existing neighbouring houses. The volume and its broken form also suggest dance movement and they are a new sign and connection element between the courtyard and the roof terrace. The roof terrace is the final element of the centre and an important part of the project of preservation and restoration of Zagreb last open roof stage.

Sports Hall Bale completed Bale 2005

Bale (Valle in Italian) is a small village in Istria peninsula, Croatia with mostly agricultural population of 1000 people. The project for the new sports hall has been faced with the rich historical, cultural and social Mediterranean context. Therefore any new architectural interpolation had to have a respectful approach to the environment. The solution has been found in interpreting the traditional ways of building by new technologies.
Inspiration for structure has been found in the small traditional stone hut - kažun, a small multifunctional building used as a shelter for shepherds that provide a cool environment in hot weather and insulating against the cold in the winter. Traditionally built without any cement or mortar with carefully selected interlocking stones found on the site this structure is a primitive example of prefabrication present in the Mediterranean since the prehistoric times. The traditional local dry stone wall motif has been used as a template/pattern for the whole surfacing of the sports hall.
On the other hand, being the second largest building after the church, the social importance of the sports hall for the town community is considerable because, besides as a sports venue, it is used as a public facility for various social gatherings, from community meetings, trade fairs to watching World Cup. Actually, the size of the building has been defined by the basketball playground and modified by additional facilities on the gallery: a fitness centre and a sauna, while the low and small locker rooms are planned as a connection element to the school. This connection to the old school with the utility rooms is hidden underground. On the other hand, the private and intimate character of the building is juxtaposed to the open public primary function of the building and its openness by glass fronts to the street.
The sports hall concept has been made to meet the design and construction time schedule of 11 months, which was possible only by using RC prefabricated elements. All the bearing and facade elements of the sports hall have been made from prefabricated elements.

Riva Split Waterfront completed Split 2005

The city of Split and its waterfront, the Riva, as the paradigm of its history and character, are among the most interesting and most specific sites in the Mediterranean. Split waterfront is an urbanized, public, open and accessible space, 1700 years old. It stands in front of Diocletian's Palace, once the home of the Roman emperor. The modular Roman form of the palace in the latter phase became the framework that shaped the city and directed its expansion; in the same way, the dimensions, materials and form of the modular network of concrete elements laid on Riva directed the arrangement and positions of all the other elements of the public space. The waterfront is the focal point where the city meets the sea. 250 meters long and 55 meters wide, it is also the main public square,
the space for all kinds of social events, promenade by day, parade by night, the site of sport events, religious processions, festivals and celebrations. The project rearticulates the space for all the mentioned events and harmonizes them on a new integrated surface. The solution uses not only architectural design, but also materials, to respond to all the challenges of utilization set before the Riva.
All urban elements and equipment was specially designed for this project and they try to meet local spirit and atmosphere.

Bus Terminal Žabica project on board Rijeka 2005

The project for the new bus terminal and a garage for 900 cars in Rijeka is one of the first steps in the "conquest" of the Rijeka port area, which is slowly begining to open up the city. The site is located in a part of the port of Rijeka which has always been closed to the public, between the railway stations, freight terminals and the passenger ferry. One of the determining design factors is the difference in scale between the port warehouses on one side and the city blocks on the other. The new terminal building with 300 meters in lenght reminiscents the massive warehouses, while the urban blocks determine the height dimensions and the zoning of the house - blocks with atriums. The area of the new terminal is surrounded by all kinds of transport - rail, cargo, port, road and pedestrian, so the new building infrastructure has become an urban strategy, a lot more than just architecture. The shoping area, the bus terminal with 18 platforms, bus depot for 14 buses and a public garage for 900 cars are located inside the terminal building, commercial and public facilities on the upper floors and a multi-purpose hall in the restored part of the existing warehouse. Pedestrian access points are provided from Krešimirova street, newly designed Žabica square and the prolonged Riva street, and they are all connected at the street level of the building, from which they move on higher levels. An accessible and quality pedestrian island of the bus terminal was created through the design proces, with acess to all of the platforms and no overlaping with the vehicular traffic. The construction and the facade are made of steel and a kind of a tribute to port cranes and constructions. They also allow a greater construction span and a better design of spaces.

House J2 completed Zagreb 2005

The family house for a couple with children is located in the green residential part of the city of Zagreb. The former family house was built in the 1950s on a steep hill slope and did not fully use all the advantages of the site nor did it meet the requirements of contemporary living standards. The beautiful view to the city and large garden was not valued appropriately. On both sides the site is bordered by a street and a high building. These contextual facts determined the concept and the shape of the new project. The "L" layout with closed fronts "protect" the house from the street and the neighbouring building. At the same time the garden has been redesigned with all the main rooms in the house oriented towards it.
The living room, dining room and kitchen form a unique space and together with a swimming pool are built into the ground. In this way, being at the same level and separated from each other by a glass wall they bring the garden into the house. The house entrance is above, at street level, together with garage, storages, closet-space and studio. The family area is above the entrance space along with the living and dining rooms.The materials used for the façades correspond to the spatial organization of facilities. The living and dining spaces are separated by glass walls which completely open the living space to the outside; on the other hand, the bedroom walls are alternatively panelled by wooden boards.

House K completed Zagreb 2008

Family house K is situated on a large residential plot on a moderate eastern-facing slope at the edge of a forest near the base of Sljeme hill.  
The concept of the house is inspired by the shape of a snail's shell, which involves a spiral twisting around its own axis, and as such all functional elements of the house follow each other and are built around a central atrium. The atrium was made in order to compensate for a lack of sunlight in the living-room area and enabled two-way lighting of certain rooms.  
The house is maximally open and rises two floors towards a vast green meadow and forest; towards the street the house is enclosed by a simple ground-floor façade with a hidden garage door.   
Diverse and colorful elements which find a place in the home in order to satisfy the needs and wants of the inhabitants are developed in a 600 m2 area and in several half-levels, thus making the best possible use of the terrain's difference in altitude and visually making the house appear smaller.
All façades and terraces are paneled with untreated teak boards. The use of wood paneling continues in the interior in response to the spiral progression, as well as to achieve an intimate and comfortable atmosphere.
A final accent to the house was made by the roof terrace. One reaches it via an external spiral staircase that hangs in the atrium between the first level and the roof, thus accentuating the fact that a family house, besides being a home for a family, has also to serve as a place for indulging in companionship, comfort, luxury and gratification.

Croatian Pavilion EXPO 2005 completed Aichi 2004

The concept of Croatia´s presentation at World EXPO 2005 in Aichi, Japan is based on the idea, the plan layout and the metaphor of salt pans. This concept culturally upgrades the initial, general theme "A drop of water" into "A drop of water: a grain of salt" due to the recognizable particularity of the Croatian landscape and history - the salt pans. Salt is the integral part of every drop of sea water, but it is also its opposite - it is obtained through hard labor. This theme unites philosophical and spiritual imagination with reality. The Pavilion was conceived rather like an event than a classic piece of architecture since it is based on visual and sensual experience. We have created the space in Japan along these lines and it is a combination of a live and mediated event. There are three rooms and five themes of the event. We think that in the future a lot of primarily public architecture will be designed in this way.

Croatian Pavilion EXPO 2008 completed Zaragoza 2007
Miramare Tower Centre project on board Zagreb 2009

The competition program is placed on a crossing of two streets, Miramarska and Bednjanska. It is a point of colliding two urban city concepts: north part with classical city blocks of the Zagreb's lower city enclosed by the railway and the south part primarily along the Vukovarska Street, outlined with modernistic dominant character of mostly public and social buildings. Concept of awarded project stems from forming a unified structure that will reconcile the surrounding urban matrix and meet the program requirements. Solution with two interacting volumes, the tower with 20 floors and the lower part of the 5 floors, united the planned goals and achieve high quality relations with the neighbouring buildings. Interspaces between two volumes - semi opened atrium, connect the inner area of the business centre with the surrounding public space. In the underground 2 floors is a garage for 400 vehicles, a ground floor space is a main access to the centre, with public commercial facilities and cafe. Higher floors are reserved for business users, while the highest floor offers a unique view of the panorama of Zagreb. Simple and at the same time very attractive effect of designing the facade by pulling the glass modules in and out, gave the building of business centre Miramare unique recognition and special value.

Polyclinic St project on board Split 2009

Close surrounding and historical site of Firule area are one of the most enjoyable Split?s living, working and recreation environments. Extraordinary location for the polyclinic is one of its greatest advantages. Placed near existing hospital complex on Firule, close to the sea and fresh air gives it even more importance and value.
Project of such determinate program and function requires maximal pragmatism and respect to the competition program, as well as maximum of technical and technological equipment and functionality. It was necessary to develop acquired functions vertically in order to place all the services, diagnostics, practices and laboratories as requested. All public spaces are located in basement, ground and first floors, patient clinic and administration on the upper floors and garage in underground.
Main visual element of the building and accent of the whole house is facade envelope, made of horizontal bands. It covers the house like the bandages are protecting the patient.
Like a membrane which protects from the sun, it is a sophisticated light regulator and it conceals as much as it reveals. It is also used as a classic sunshade (sun shutter) and it's inspired by one of the most recognizable elements of modern Split's architecture - Ivo Radić's "briss soleil".
Atriums/loggias are segments of exterior and semi public areas placed throughout all floors.
They divide and connect spaces of the polyclinic, and instead of introvert hospital corridor, they provide a relaxing zone filled with Mediterranean greenery, wooden terraces with view to the sea and surrounding islands. In the atriums, patients, staff and visitors can take a break, smell some fresh sea air and take a walk (even in the pyjamas).

Draga City Centre project Šibenik 2009

Identification of elements and recognition of the city's extremely linear character, which has developed alongside of dominant traffic paths by following the terrain's configuration, are motifs and inspirations used for the new project of Draga in Šibenik.
Attributes of its identity and physical and urban qualities of the city are the most important elements this project deals with, and a basic impulse and inspiration for the concept of the location's further development. The proposed plan allows the continued development of a much wider area than the one set in the competition program.
Since the recent construction follows the main traffic arteries, the treatment of dense urban structure, the new eastern section structure and their relationship is intentionally strengthened. By connecting and "naturally" continuing the main linear directions of existing streets from west and east, we create a new grid, which completely defines the new space and the newly planned structure. Urban terraces, used for developing new blocks, are created by following the natural terrain configuration and descent to the sea line. They are woven in to the city's memory, connected to pedestrian transverses, small alleys and squares - piaceta's that make up the new public space. Five verticals ascending from these new blocks are the main accents of the new space. They continue Šibenik's tradition of verticals, from the church towers to the first residential skyscrapers ("red" and "blue").
Draga is located in the central area of Šibenik and as such represents a potential for developing a new administrative and cultural city center. The zone already accommodates a number of public, administrative and cultural facilities. Increased density and variety of content, so-called urban mix of public, residential, tourist, commercial, cultural and business facilities extends the life of the zone to 24 hours a day. This high density is also a prerequisite for the development of the current coast which will open the city to the sea and become a new urban waterfront. The bus station and the market are transferred to a new location in the wider zone and new space is created for the implementation of more appropriate content.
The design proposes linear elongated blocks of buildings located on the borders of the transition from higher to lower plateau / terrace, primarily with two street facades. The diversity in façade treatment and volume shaping stimulated and inspired by the pace of the streets and Šibenik's old town core, contributes to a harmonious volume, street fronts, passages and cascades rhythm.

University Library Zadar project Zadar 2009

A regular urban raster has always been the dominant motif in the planning of Zadar, an element of regulation for the whole area and the distinctive symbol of the city. Authority of that existing grid in the context of this project is imposed as an essential element in the development of the entire area of the future campus.
The University library is the first significant new building, which plans to build in the area of the new Zadar campus. It must function in the surroundings it will be located today, not only in the ideal scheme conceived in the future. One of the main tasks of a modern library is the social obligation to house not only books but also the information media and allow them space for explosive multiplication.
The urban placement of the building volume in the south-eastern edge of the parcel and the determined urban parameters completely define the buildings character. Envelope in which the default library program must be made is also the default container frame.
The main communication axis is set in an east ? west direction, from the park to the street and that clearly defines the main entrance (from the park) and opens the first floor space in that direction. After that large passage which is the main meeting and communication place the space completely opens and expands vertically upwards.
The openness and visual accessibility of each gallery floor and the representative public staircase, which we called Zoranic stairs, climb to the symbolic "mountain of knowledge", as Petar Zoranic climbs in the allegorical epic Mountains.
Due to the Mediterranean climate, but also because of the physical protection of the library content, the simple inner volume of the introverted house required a simple expression of the external volume and the library facade. Vertical stacking of the facade layers, with a space between them, makes the library more closed from the outside, but these layers also cancel out, dematerialize its real dimensions.
Except in a pile of stacked books, the inspiration for the façade was found in local materials. One of the most characteristic stones in the local climate is Benkovac stone. It is very specific, simple, popular and in use for centuries. Its most numerous use is in the form of a panel, usually randomly stacked, and it can always be found stacked on a pile.

Spaladium Arena under construction Split 2007

Spaladium Centar, sports and business complex is located on the northern part of the Split peninsula, in the vicinity of Poljud, a sports complex with a football field and pool built for The Mediterranean Games in 1979.
Spaladium Centar consists of a handball arena for 12,000 spectators, a wellness center, a sky bar and an exclusive restaurant on the top floor overlooking the entire city, its surroundings and the islands of the Split archipelago. There are 1,500 garage parking places. The shopping center guarantees visits even when the handball arena is not in use. The arena itself is a multi-purpose hall. In addition to handball, the arena will be used for basketball, tennis, volleyball, boxing, motocross, and will also be a venue for trade fairs, conventions, exhibitions and concerts.
With this complex Split will get a sports, entertainment, culture and recreation venue that will activate and reaffirm the northern part of the Split peninsula.
The complex achieves a balance between the low-lying main area and the tower?s verticality. The agreement between the horizontal and vertical is in its composition and urban planning set in order to place the location with special importance. It resembles a ship carrier: a platform with various attractive contents, with its vertical element serving as a landmark, lighthouse and location sign. It is an entrance to the new city area, its future and gateway to the northern harbour.
The complex is integrated into a compact unit by its shape, and is unified by a distinct exterior that binds functionally different elements and usages throughout the year.

Sv Vid Housing completed Rovinj 2006

The new residence building No. 50 in Sveti Vid in the city of Rovinj responds to a couple of relevant contextual questions. The context of the Mediterranean, specific climate, the way of life, the contact with open spaces, sun protection, are just some of the themes that had impact on the building design and its function. The local context of the narrow streets (in Croatian kala) of the city of Rovinj is the basic shaping element that turns this building into a specific and original project. The idea was to group residential units around two residential communication vertical voids, interpretation of narrow streets that formally divides the building into three residential parts at the same time interconnected with this element.
Because of the mild Mediterranean climate and possibility of being outside more than six months in a year; the common spaces are open, protected by mash and therefore they are functioning as a green garden for the tenants, as well as an open and covered staircase entrance area into two apartments on each floor. The outside spaces of the residential units change its character on each floor; there are green terraces in the ground floor apartments, on the fist floor the outside space is pulled in and transformed into a deep loggia, and on the last floor it is integrated into the apartment and forms an outside atrium.
There are three types of apartments; lateral and bilateral. Six lateral apartments (three on each side) have a three side orientation which provides the apartment with the quality of a house. All apartments are light and sunny, with spacious living rooms, big bedrooms, a kitchen with dining room, high-quality parquet in all rooms and ceramic tiles in the utility rooms. The apartments are 90 to 100 sqm and have garage parking with direct dry connection with the apartment.
Particularity of the house lies, besides in its emphasized volumes, in the design of all windows and openings. All openings are big and unite windows that can be opened by fixed glass parts. This element is a result of the idea of having one big opening in each room that would provide more light in the apartment and would create specific form of the building. Discreet main volumes of the house are clad in high quality mortar.

Duilovo Waterfront Masterplan project Split 2009

The idea behind the project with the work name SWS 2015 is to enrich the southern part of Split with the urban infrastructure regulation matrix and reaffirm the possibility of merging that part of the city with the shoreline.
The location on the Split's shoreline that the potential to accomplish a quality urban contact with the sea, the intensity of which would dramatically influence the redefining of spatial relations on a much greater scale than those defined by the competition program.  A similar potential on the Split's peninsula is possible only on the northern part of the city towards Solin, which is more suitable for designing a contemporary business zone when the need for such a program occurs.
The fundamental starting point of this project is to bring out the city to the sea in the full intensity - to be on the sea and functionally connected with the sea, in a way accomplished by todays leading European and world cities, by implementing thoughtful and long-term policies of urban development - like Barcelona, Valencia, Rotterdam, Sidney etc.

Poreč Green Forum project Porec 2007

In the center of the town of Poreč, important Croatian tourist destination in Istrian peninsula, there is a large vacant space. This large space of the town parking lot has exceptional potential, because of the nearby old town and the Adriatic Sea, the pedestrian hub, the town access roads and the other city contact zones. Clearly defined contact zones make it possible to turn the specified location into a big public urban space. Concept of the Green Forum try to unify and emphasize large and uniform green surface, which is full of content and which will becomes a main public town space. This space is suggesting openness and free flow above and below ground. Below the green area there is a large parking lot, its size varying with seasons. A part of the parking lot is used outside the season as a public indoor space - a Hall for various public events; other parts of the curved surface include business and commercial contents. The public contents above ground are primarily used to meet the public needs of the town, but also to retain citizens and visitors. The Park has a uniform shape and enough functional complexity to be used throughout the year. Terraces of catering facilities, courts for squash, beach volleyball and basketball, a children´s playground, as well as various other attractors, offer diverse space uses and experiences to visitors. The tourism development strategy of Istria defines Poreč as an entertainment town. This concept of the Green Forum goes hand in hand with that strategy and makes such a public space suitable for all the important events - fairs, carnivals, celebrations, festivals, open-air concerts, processions... This project will turn Poreč into a major fair venue in the region.

Bundek Bridge project Zagreb 2008

Bundek Bridge is the new landmark that connects north and south of Zagreb, simultaneously incorporating the Sava River. 
The bridge is 664 meters long and 35 meters wide. The main goal was to design a bridge that, in the broader urban architectural context of the river Sava, would create a new gateway into the city that would be easily recognizable but at the same time have an unobtrusive identity. One of the main elements of this identity is the design of tram tracks that, unlike other bridges, run through the bridge's insides and not on its surface. The design of the bridge aims to reflect the time and place of its creation. The reason for choosing beams as the main construction and design element is primarily to honor the tradition of Zagreb's bridges in the central zone of Sava River. The bent cross-section of the bridge gives it lightness and dynamism, and the play of light and shadow in its cross-section make it more elegant.
The bridge's truss is perforated with continuous triangle-shaped "holes" that have multiple functions; from providing light for the pedestrian zone and enabling easier construction, to creating an integral dynamic line that makes this bridge unique and recognizable. The number of perforations becomes smaller as the bridge nears the levees and grows toward the middle of the span - i.e. the Sava's bed.   The new approach to designing the bridge is evident in the cross-section of supporters and constructive elements as well as the elements of the urban outfitting of the bridge and elevators.
There are two faces of this bridge: in sunlight when the outer part of the truss is illuminated and the pedestrian zone is shadowed, and the night aspect of the arch when the bridge is lighted from within and the dynamic line of "holes" is fully accentuated. The lighting in general is designed in such a way that it visually accentuates the bridge?s dynamic. Special attention is given to pedestrians and bicyclists whose communication is thus enabled on two levels, on the upper plateau and on the sides, which are protected from atmospheric elements. The pedestrian way joins Bundek with the southern and northern levee.

Kajzerica City Stadium project Zagreb 2008

The city stadium Kajzerica in Novi Zagreb represents a new landmark in the city.
The stadium, which seats more than 50.000 spectators, is located on an elevated plateau next to the sports and recreational zone of the racetracks and it dominates the surrounding area, the green zone of Sava and Bundek. The stadium is visible from all surrounding areas on both sides of the Sava River.
The coverage area is divided into three zones, consistent with the project's program, and into three phases, consistent with the financial framework of construction.
The northern zone, the first building zone, enables the undisturbed building of the stadium, independent of the surrounding settlements, parcels and Zagrebački Velesajam. The middle zone, the second building phase is crucial for the development of the stadium because this is where different services will be situated, as well as the infrastructural elements used by all three zones (public garages, bus parking and similar). The southern zone, i.e. the third building phase, encompasses the whole area of Velesajam and all of its buildings. It is for the construction of new businesses, commercial and residential buildings as well as a new commercial center. Within the newly formed cassettes - "blocks" there will be hotels, a congress center, business centers and obligatory residential areas. Integration of these elements ensures livelihood of the new center and brings a long-awaited downtown feeling and an opportunity for socialization to Novi Zagreb.
The inspiration for the circular arena came from several suitable forms; the so-called Magnus effect, one of the most difficult and attractive moves in soccer which occurs when a ball changes its course, the name of the neighborhood "kajzerica", which is a name for a certain kind of a bun whose shape is reflected in the stadium. In the context of a contemporary sports arena, this design evokes the saying from ancient times about "bread and circuses".

Ujpest City Centre project Budapest 2008

3LHD project for a polyvalent multifunctional new city centre Ujpest in Budapest, Hungary received mention at the international competition. The centre is located along the Vaci Road, the main road of north Pest, Szabadasag public Park and Danube promenade. The object was to create a new city centre active 24/7, space pleasant for work and leisure. The analysis of the 19th and 20th century urban matrices forms the base for the development of the concept in two ways. The ground for generating public areas and out of which nine towers with different heights and functions rise was thus created. On the other hand, the layout flexibility is enabled with the universal core as the base for development of different usages from business to hotel, restaurant and shopping.
Various silhouettes seen from different points in the city reduce the overall effect of a big mass and respond to the different contextual conditions. At the same time, previously neglected area forms a new city vista. The nine vertical elements are carefully grouped regarding pedestrian corridors and functions of each building and zone. New volumes have enough distance between them so that every volume has enough light and quality organization of space. Plans of all verticals are very flexible so in the further development they can be transformed regarding a different function, according to the client's needs.

Brenum Office Building project Srebreno 2008

Office building Brenum is located in Srebreno, half way between City of Dubrovnik and the airport in Ćilipi, surrounded by authentic, semi rural structure. At the same time it is situated in the zone of planned business and economic development, in constant dialogue with the road along which it is placed, absorbing fast changes and extreme growth of economy.
In such a dynamic context, exceptional attention was made to the treatment of the facade, forming it like an ethereal, translucent skin covering the pragmatic structures of the office building. The program is structured in three floors: ground-floor is a commercial space with bank offices and the entrance area with a café, and first and second floors are intended for business premises of Brenum Company and offices for rent. Garage spaces for the employees and guests, as well as storage space are situated underground.
There are a few approaches to the building - on the north side for pedestrians, directly from the road, through the wide beach, and on the west side for vehicles, from the road which leads to the centre of Srebreno. The landscape project for area surrounding the building includes a decorative ambiental garden with individual plants characteristic for the area and a wall as an architectural accent which, following the perimeter of the site reconciles the altitude difference with the surrounding roads.

Jarun Bridge project Zagreb 2007

Jarun Bridge is a new landmark that brings the city of Zagreb closer to the river Sava and places it in the company of European capitals. Its design reflects the place and the time of its origin. Its longitudinal arrangement was chosen according to the principles of design, effectiveness and optimal integration into the surrounding area. The river Sava was bridged over with one span and thus a bridge was created that makes evident the current global potential of Croatian builders. A bridge with arches is an archetypal bridge that, in a type with an arch above the roadway, presents the optimal solution for the flat area around it. On one hand this solution is not new, as there are no new forms in bridge construction these days, but on the other hand this design is original. The reason behind choosing an arch as the main construction and design element is primarily in the two equivalent banks that it connects. The symmetry of the arch always refers to the balance between the two banks, and in this case they are equally important as opposed to some other locations where that is not the case. The new approach to designing the arch is apparent in the different design of the cross-section of all girders and construction elements.

Central Residences project Zagreb 2007

The idea was to build a home, a sanctuary from the noise of the big city, but with a contemporary feel, refined details and sophisticated ambiance. The building has been conceived as a modern residence with unique apartments and city houses.
In the best tradition of pedestrian passageways in Zagreb, this residential complex has a passageway through the whole building. It crosses the entire block from Jelačić Square, through the building of Gradski Podrum restaurant, to the streets of Cesarčeva and Kurelčeva. Inside, the main attraction is the spacious green garden in the center of the residential complex.
The courtyard garden is an interlude of greenery, the focal point of all the auxiliary contents of the building. On two levels above ground and one below ground, it is surrounded by all the contents which make the complex so exclusive.

EECC Xi'An project Xi´an 2006

The New Silk Road is the future cultural theme park in the city of Xi´An, one of the Chinese imperial centres having intention of becoming cultural centre of China. The project is a competition work for an international architectural contest. Reflecting the historical importance of the Silk Road on the cultural exchange between Asia and Europe, New Silk Road project explores the contemporary influence of the global communication and travelling onto culture intertwining. The new location was planned to have 9 distinct areas with 9 houses ? that would represent 9 regions of the Silk Road territory; Scandinavia, Western Europe, Eastern Europe and Mediterranean in Europe, Middle East territory and finally China.
The task was to make a project that would define the region that it represents (3LHD represents Eastern Europe destination), its cultural and historical context, reference to the surrounding parts of the park/regions and reference to the bordering town matrix of Xi´an. The area of Eastern Europe has always been the geopolitical crossroad of nations, cultures, knowledge and technologies, an area of constant change. Therefore, similar to the semipermeable membrane character of the geographical and political situation of Eastern Europe was the 3LHD approach to the concept of the House respresenting Eastern Europe. The multifunctional object is planned to be in accord with the given context. Topography, landscape, climate, space and atmosphere are unified in sustainable organism under green roof. The building is defined by the combination of natural and artificial "landscape". Emphasised horizontal form and continuity of space suggests openness and accessibility. The 23 000m2 house consists of Theatre with 500 seating places, indoor and outdoor Exhibition rooms, Library, Archive and a small apartment section.

Tower 123 project Zagreb 2006

The business Tower 123 is a design by invitation for the new and tallest building in Zagreb and in Croatia. The solution for the design has been made after identifying the shortage of quality public space on the location of the Tower and the surrounding district. The analysis revealed the coexistence of two matrices-one modern and urbane, and the other, the remaining rural architecture which has been absorbed by the city space. It was evident that both matrices lacked quality public space.The principal avenue at the entry to Zagreb has been conceived as the main business area, thus giving to the image of the city a thoroughly new appearance.The Business Tower 123 is planned to become the key element of the whole area, with its height of 123m and the advanced DIAGRD structure which is a strong, safe and cost-effective diagonal structural concept. A trapezoidal ground plan is without columns which provides for various ground plan possibilities.The interior space of the tower is shared by business and public areas. The ground floor consists of a tall multi level lobby with access from all directions and different levels; the public facilities - a café and a restaurant are located at mid height of the Tower and on the top floor, where a belvedere with a 360° sightseeing area and a Museum of Zagreb Urban Development have also been planned. The roof area is reserved for a heliport. The Business Tower 123 will be the tallest building in Croatia and in the whole region.

Bus Terminal Rovinj project on board Rovinj 2006

The decision to build the Rovinj new bus terminal on the Boksiti site has multiple significance. One of the most important is that the location of the new terminal and public garage will significantly relieve traffic coming into the old city core from the south east. The idea is to integrate the terminal into the town tissue by placing most of it below ground level and adapting the rest to the environment. The programme requires a very complex, high intensity communication solution (bus, car, pedestrian) with the emphasis on safety and functionality. The infrastructure building consisting of a three-level public garage and a one-level bus terminal provides the facilities with the purpose to establish a dialogue with all the buildings surrounding it. These facilities (catering, services, shopping and business) will make this part of the town busy 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. By designing the facilities in three volumes, the size and the volume of each object are adapted to the buildings surrounding it and to the set context.

Bale Shoreline Development Study project Istria 2007

The subject of this development study is the coastal area of Bale municipality which covers the surface area of 450 ha. The pristine natural beauty of the Bale shoreline is undeniable. Its well-indented coast, numerous coves and beaches, lush vegetation, scenic rural landscapes; and architectural and archeological heritage make the region one of Croatia´s best-kept secrets.
Bale Shoreline Development Study is based on the concept of active yet environmentally friendly tourism. Special attention is paid to the positioning and sizing of each proposed facility due to area´s unique features.
The area will cater to both day visitors and longer-term tourists who will be staying in local accommodation facilities. The entire shoreline zone is planned as a high-end destination of four- to five-star category. There will be two points for entering the Bale shoreline and the main means of public transport will be the electric train, as well as electric carts and bicycles.
All the facilities will be opened to the public and there will be no private lodgings. The planned accommodation capacity of the entire zone is 1,800 beds, with an ability to receive approximately 3,000 day visitors. This results in a low-density tourism where each person enjoys approximately 0.1 ha and 1.8 sqm of the shore all to oneselves.
The most of the accommodation facilities are planned to be in three new hotels positioned 700 meters off the coast.
Three recreational-entertainment centers will be geared toward different consumers
The coast will be a place for three new recreational-entertainment centers, and the valley will be a place for scientific-educational center. A signature 18-hole golf course is proposed for the Barbariga fortification area, fortification Benedetto will be retrofitted into a cultural center, and Fort Forno will be converted into a premium-priced hotel and spa center. Designing plans also include a botanical garden, beaches, an equestrian center, an airfield for hot-air balloons, a diving center, and a reconstruction of an olive grove from the 16th century, small churches and lookouts.
The goal is to offer a series of diverse yet complimentary activities, with programs and architecture that fit into the cultural context and environment of the Bale shoreline.

House N completed Zagreb 2005

House N is situated in a quieter secondary neighborhood on Pantovcak street in Zagreb, perched in the western hills and boasting a delightful panoramic view of the forest and the city.
A relatively narrow steeply sloping and elongated plot was the key element that defined the position and layout of the house. Close proximity to neighboring buildings on the eastern and southern borders of the plot influenced the house's relatively compact design with a reduced number of openings in these two façades. Directions of movement in the interior were additionally accentuated within the external volume of the house and represent its main design element. The entire house, its façades and the roof are covered with the same material, dark brown HPL panels, which, in contrast to large openings, make its volume more compact.   
The ground floor consists of a living area, which extends to the outer environment through wooden terraces, some of which are roofed over, while others are open to the sky, winding up in completely natural pebbled areas amid grass. Unlike the living room and the dining area, contact between the kitchen and the exterior is not as direct. Nevertheless, the placement of the kitchen in an otherwise unfavorable position in relation to neighboring homes and the surrounding terrain was auspiciously counterbalanced by the introduction of a broad corner window set level with the garden lawn. Hence the work surface, placed alongside the window, appears to stretch out toward an open expanse of the garden.
The unfortunate position of an access road running alongside the entire length of the plot makes opening from the living room area to the most desirable southern vantage impossible. Consequently the southern area is modestly covered in a triangular glass shell that rises towards the southwestern corner and connects to the expansive glass surfaces of the western part of the house which are wholly open, thus connecting the living room with the garden.  
The main accent in the interior is a wide two-floored hall that signifies the main connector of the ground and first floors. It is dominated by a hanging Poulsen "artichoke" bathed in diffuse zenithal lighting that comes from a high main window and gives the entire area a unique atmosphere. The first floor consists of intimate areas; a work area, parent and children's zones, from which one may take in a most breathtaking view through a corner window.  
Floors of oiled teak and white walls create a respectable foundation for any color intervention which might take place in the future. Special attention was given to the lighting of the rooms. Toilet and wardrobe areas are lighted with roof lights in order to provide them with as much natural and superior quality illumination as possible. The fitness room is situated in the basement and gets its only source of light through round glass ceiling lights placed along the southern glass surface of the living area floor.
Simplicity and compactness of volume, a limited choice of materials and resultant colors in the end make the house look like a piece of fine dark chocolate placed atop a green meadow.

SE Gate Tower project Zagreb 2005

The SE gate project is a proposal for construction a 26-storey office tower. The location of Radnička Road / Domovinski Bridge lies in the southeast of the city of Zagreb, with low-rise buildings on the left bank of the Sava, right next to the construction site of the new Domovinski Bridge. When Domovinski Bridge and Radnička Road are finished, Zagreb will have another access route to the city, the first in 25 years. The new road, as a continuation of Heinzelova Road, will connect Slavonska Avenue, Zagreb ring road and the shortest way to the airport. The rest of the lot should include smaller structures for commercial, catering and business purposes, while parking space will be provided in the underground levels. The entire surroundings, as well as the architecture of low-rise buildings, are adapted to the sports/recreational uses planned in the immediate vicinity. The vertical axis of the office tower is shaped to transform the crystalline form and create interesting and varied spaces in the building itself, while the irregular pattern of front windows reflects the lights of cars passing the bridge and creates shifting images in the River Sava.

xCimos Office Building under construction Zagreb 2005

For more than fifteen years the so-called business building "Cimos" has been left unfinished on the main Zagreb western avenue at the entry into the town. The new owner has decided to finish the construction by extending the existing layout and building additional floors. The new design has taken into account the existing shape and layout and the requirements of our client. The volume of the building consists of two parts - the higher one is intended for business purposes and the lower one contains a shopping centre and a car park. The new design does not essentially change the initial function of the building. In terms of design, the most important parts are the front and the attractive entrance lobby. The new glass front encircles the building and "softens" the curve of the layout. In addition to their primary function, the vertical blinds along the full height of the building emphasize this "softening" effect. The vertical communication line with the flights of stairs and lifts begins in the lobby. The business premises have an "open space" flexible design and can be defined later, according to specific needs. By building new parts we have also extended the surface of the existing floors and the capacity of the car park at ground level.

Hypo City Zavrtnica project on board Zagreb 2005

Zavrtnica quarter of Zagreb is located in the part where construction activities are thriving and where the site of old factories is being converted into a new business area. The morphology of the area derives from the location (between the Lower Town and the new town parts in the south) The population density is the same as in the Lower Town bloc, and a great number of green open spaces and numerous sports facilities are the same as in the city planning standards for new settlements built in Zagreb in the second half of the 20th century.The design is the combination of these elements, where four redesigned urban blocs bordered by four traffic roads, crossed by three pedestrian streets, with a lot of greenery and sports and recreation facilities in the centre. The residential units are of a slightly higher standard than usual. All the apartments are spacious, with large glass walls, and on the ground level and public areas the recreational facilities are in a greened area.This type of residential area is intended for business people of various professions and their families who want to live close to their work (the city centre, the business centres in the vicinity), and also enjoy a high standard of living and rich amenities within the area.

Ibler Passage project Zagreb 2005

The Ibler Passage is located in one of Zagreb lower-town blocks. It ows its name to the renowned architect Drago Ibler who designed the buildings along the Passage between Vlaška and Martićeva streets.The first buildings in this area were built in the first quarter of the 20th century. Most of the buildings have been used for business and shopping purposes, but most of the premises have been deserted over time and left to deteriorate.The new Ibler Passage design has been conceived as an urban catalyst intended to activate and redefine the lower-town context. By its new shape and content, but also by preserving the primary purpose, the space acquires a completely new, metropolitan character. Exclusive business and shopping facilities and cafés and restaurants have been located in the urban structure which is reminiscent of a pedestrian zone. The Passage is also in line with the Zagreb tradition of shopping arcades like Oktogon. The public part of the street is partly a closed space (the existing building with a vault) and partly an open square with a trellis above the end of the passage.Along the part for public use, the existing facilities of varying sizes are intended for shopping purposes.

eDU Park project Dubrovnik 2007

The context of Dubrovnik is always burdened by the iconic image of the old city. The picture/postcard known everywhere is a brand and a money-making fact that will always bring people/tourists in to the city. Independent and free Dubrovnik Republic was famous through history not only by its physical/built environment but also by its intellectual and cultural elite. In the past a lot of builders (M.Michelozzi, J.Dalamtinac), scientists (R.Boskovic, I.Supek) and poets (M.Drzic, I.Gundulic) were citizens of Dubrovnik and their contribution was important not only for the city but to the whole Europe and the world. That kind of cultural/intellectual layering is missing today. Nowadays, (mass) tourism is a fact and one of the most important economical contributors to the local and Croatian budget. That fact and the "problem" of prolonging the money fruitful summer is a subject of our project. Project proposes the reconstruction of the abandoned old hospital site by inserting new educational and public program in breathtaking Natural Park thus creating new cultural density and social structure for the old city of Dubrovnik. A beautiful pine forest 200 meters from old city on the natural sea cliff 50 meters above the sea and 30m high boles and green treetops above are like green clouds covering the whole site. There are abandoned hospital facilities - pavilions in the park, some housing, old church with a graveyard, public beach on the cliffs and small Public Park on the site today. By transformation of the site and opening of this whole area we are increasing open/public spaces of Dubrovnik and by introducing New (Intellectual/Cultural) Tourism we are making space for planed University facilities: faculties of Humanistic and Social Sciences, Music and Art.

With its extraordinary natural and cultural assets Bale Municipality can be developed in a variety of ways that would lead to improving the region and the well-being of its inhabitants ? elaborates this strategic development. The main interest of the local population was to protect the coastline from overbuilding and to find a strategy for the sustainable development of the whole district.
These are the proposed elements of building the brand identity found in the region:
- Bale: the region of native Buža olives
- Bale: the region of dinosaurs and paleontology
- Bale: the region of unique traditional lodgings - stancija
- Bale: the region of butterflies
- Bale: residence of the Venetian Bembo family
The first phase of the study has been conceived as a commercial about the vision for the future of Bale. It consists of six stories presenting new capacities incorporated into the environment, about fortresses and inns converted into tourist accommodation, about the protected medieval town of Bale, the dinosaur museum and theme park, recreation zones and a multimedia centre dedicated to the butterflies. The population, the local authorities and the Ministry of Zoning and Physical Planning of the Republic of Croatia have fully accepted the study and the development plan it provides. We believe that it presents one of the possible development models that can also be applied to other local communities throughout Croatia. The plan protects the natural landscape and its resources and does not encourage major new construction projects. Tourism and progress are not a process which can be stopped, however they can be controlled.

Tourist Resort Monte Mulini project on board Rovinj 2004

The Monte Mulini zone is the most attractive tourist area of Rovinj, characterised by a spacious park and hotel architecture from the 1970s, which has lost its designed exclusive character over the years. Following a detailed analysis of the greater town area and the Monte Mulini zone itself, building and non-building surfaces have been defined, based on the evaluation of the given natural and already built surfaces, and on the wish to maximally enhance the quality of the environment. This has resulted in the design which follows the patterns of space and events, and has five characteristic settings: Setting 01 - the park area (the most valuable part of the zone, with paths; Setting 02 - the waterfront-beach (extended town promenade with minimum new facilities); Setting 03 - the "marina" with the new urban "deck" (town meeting point); Setting 04 - the interspace, a meeting place, a place of pleasure and entertainment (recreation and leisure area); Setting 05 - accommodation zone (new and old hotels)This master plan sets the basis for the development of the whole tourist resort and for upgrading the standards of all the facilities, ranging from the hotels, to catering and services.

Histrioni Theatre completed Zagreb 2003

With the coming of new and modern multiplex cinema theatres, the old Zagreb cinemas in urban blocks of the city centre have gradually started to die out, and the buildings have started to deteriorate. Noticing this, the City of Zagreb has launched a process of converting these areas for alternative cultural purposes. The ex-Apolo Cinema is a typical back-building in a Zagreb Downtown block, with a public court in front of it, providing for a number of great opportunities, but unfortunately neglected, as are most of the Downtown blocks.
Despite the fact it was built in 1890, the building has had good predispositions to be converted into a public space. A new theatre has been formed within the existing premises of the former cinema, and the building has kept its original ground plan.
The project removes the old structure by fitting in the new stage and auditorium with 220 seats inside the existing wall perimeter resulting in reinforcement of the pre-existing spatial qualities.
The project is not restricted to the structure - architectural domain but also creates a complete visual identity, from theatre setting of individual spaces; the panel on the street, the entrance lobby, the coffee bar, to the theatre hall itself ?becoming a new element and active participant of the urban scenography in the context of theatrical scenery on the inside and in the context of the city itself on the outside. The present physical and social importance of the building is interpreted in accordance with the ancient theory of theatre function.

Kozala Cemetary Building completed Rijeka 2002

The reconstruction and extension of the office building of the Kozala cemetery and the design of the square at the entrance to the cemetery. The complex is located at the fringe of a protected historical unit from the art nouveau period. Following an analysis of the task and of the existing situation, the need arose to maximally conceal the unattractive parts from visitors. This is why the new façade of the integral object is treated as a "floating" backdrop to the square, on which the existing greenery is reflected. The existing object is concealed with a screen of greenery, surrounding it from the northern and eastern side, while the western side facing the cemetery forms the entrance atrium - the utility yard. The design of the square in front of the building is a kind of intermezzo on the promenade curve from the direction of the park towards the central promenade in the cemetery, and its material presents a minimal difference from the promenade slabs. The slabs are made from granulated artificial crushed stone which is the universal recognizable element in cemeteries, and processed in three different ways: cast, terrazzo and polished terrazzo.An essential part of the project concept is the greenery. The existing vegetation is carefully harmonized with new plants, together with the new facilities like benches and lighting.The third essential part is the preservation of the flower kiosks, by placing them below the "floating" volume of the house into glass cylinders, thus additionally visually emphasizing the new intervention.

Stadium City Garden project Osijek 2002

The "Town Garden" stadium is in Osijek, eastern Croatia, and belongs to the FC Osijek, a standard Croatian First Division team. It is located in the south western part of the town, at the end of the town's green areas. Within the new sports recreational zone where the stadium is located, a sports hall and athletic stadium have also been planned. Future plans also include a large sports complex with different sporting facilities, a large hall, an indoor swimming pool, a skating rink, tennis centre, and similar facilities, together with the accompanying amenities and car parks. The project also includes the reconstruction and extension of the stadium in order to meet UEFA requirements for European championship matches. Special attention has been paid to the security, functionality and integration of the stadium into the landscape. The new stadium will have fully covered stands seating 33,000 spectators.The concept, summarized in the formula Town Garden "Green Garden" Football Garden really intends to unite the public park and the sports recreational centre into one whole. We have decided to keep the existing western stands and to link them with three new stands into an integral object. The new parts respect the layout and the quality of the existing facilities and they integrate in design and functionality.The two integration elements of the existing and the new elements are the roof and the façade of the whole stadium, together with the cover material. This is a transparent material made of carbon fibres. In daylight it visually "softens" the object mass, whilst in the dark it enables the creation of various lighting effects which suggests various facilities.

House V completed Zagreb 2001

House V was designed in order to satisfy the needs of a family. Applying communication between the common and individual rooms, the facilities and functions of the space have been connected into a single unit that creates a comfortable living area for a family. 
The house is situated beneath Zagreb mountain Medvednica, on a relatively mild hill that stretches from south to east. The formed building direction and the quality of the landscape have directly influenced the position of the house.
The house is closed on the north side along the street and opens up into a large private garden thus creating a sense of intimacy for family life. The ground floor is intended for the common activities of the inhabitants, with a gradual staircase connecting the serene living area to private rooms on the first floor. Exits to the outdoor landscape are possible from the pool on the southern side, the porch area on the southeastern side, along the glass front of the living room and from the commercial part on northeast side. The open ground floor is directed towards the outside area while the partly enclosed first floor with a terrace only symbolically plays with the relationship of the intimate and transparent.
The longitudinal volume that breaks amply is included in the dynamic by vertical openings on both floors on the western façade. With its shape and careful fit into the surrounding landscape, House V stands out distinctly from the buildings around it.

House J completed Zagreb 2000

The family house J is located in an environment that is typical for the slopes of Sljeme, with randomly situated and unplanned detached houses of various sizes and layouts. The site is very steep and access is difficult. The design was commissioned by a typical family - parents, children and grandmother.The steep terrain defined the shape of the house, not merely its orientation, but also the specific access to it via the existing utility facility, a lift and a bridge. On the first level are the main entrance and the grandmother's flat; on the second level is the family and common use area, and the third level - which is extended towards the east - is intended for the children. A large layout provides for an atrium in the center of the house; the kitchen, dining room, utility rooms and parents' areas with a separate bathroom and a closet-room are grouped around it.Open views and the open atrium create a space which is a combination of light and dark. Large glass walls along the full height of the level and a glass cupola above the main stairs allow light into and guide it through the house space. The living room and the dining room open on to terraces with views across the city and to Sljeme.The third important conceptual element of the house is the woodwork and its application.

Villa Klara completed Zagreb 1997

The Villa is placed in natural surroundings, on the slopes of the Cmrok hill, in a very attractive residential part of the city of Zagreb. The customary program of a family residence had to be adjusted to the very steep terrain. Instead of traditional divisions into upstairs/downstairs and public/private, the building is organized into a series of units. By integrating the external and internal space, several units were linked together in a form of horizontal and vertical meander. Through the wrapping of plywood paneling and green cooper we wanted to show an affirmative attitude towards the surrounding area.

Memorial Bridge completed Rijeka 1997

The Memorial Bridge is a spatial intervention and an urban public object, a construction with tactile properties and a symbolic object. It is a pedestrian bridge that embodies the utilitarian function and a memory of the Croatian war of Independence veterans, a place of memory and piety, but also a social gathering and socializing spot. It is located in the center of Rijeka, on the channel which separates the historic city center from the former port, at one of the most potent sites for future construction (it is currently occupied by a parking lot, in the future it will become a park).
The bridge is designed as an extremely thin plate (65cm) connecting the two banks of the channel in a characteristic L-shape, it extends across the channel and ends with a monumental vertical accent. The definition of the public space was achieved only through the structure of the bridge itself, which at the same time must be recognized as a memorial object.
A four year long research resulted in the construction specially designed and manufactured exclusively for this project. Each part of the bridge was an industrially designed and manufactured product that was assembled on site. The 150 tons heavy steel bridge structure was produced in a local shipyard, and carried by sea in one piece on a specially designed barge to the location. As the Memorial Bridge had to pass under two existing bridges on its way to the site, the barge was designed so that it can sink at the time of lowest water levels and go under the existing bridges with its burden.
This urban public hybrid has changed the vista of the city (in the material as well as mental sense) and has achieved its goal of being a Memorial Bridge.
